Note: Panelists at the “Decolonizing Evaluation” session during the 4th Conference on Evaluating Environment and Development, Washington, DC, 5–7 March 2024.

The first work on the Academy before it was even legally established was to start exploring how evaluation could be decolonised, to address the systemic challenges of the polycrisis. Led by two Academy Board members Bagele Chilisa and Nicky Bowman, a special edition of the Journal of Multidimensional Evaluation was published  on Decolonising Evaluation: Towards a fifth paradigm.

The focus on decolonising evaluation is explored in a keynote of the European Evaluation Society on 15 November 2023 with Ian Goldman in conversation with Dr Nicky Bowman on Decolonisation and Indigeneity in evaluation.

This work has also been shared in numerous events including a session at the 2024 Conference of the Global Environment Facility, which has subsequently been written up in two chapters of a book which will be published in 2026; a gLocal webinar on Decolonising Evaluation on 5 June 2024.
